Every developer's first program is the same two words.
Hello, World.
It runs, the terminal blinks back, and something shifts. You realize — I just told a machine what to do, and it listened. That feeling never really goes away. It just gets more complex.
So it felt right to start here.
My name is Samuel Ezekiel — most people online know me as SAMKIEL.
I'm a Full Stack Software Engineer based in Ile Ife, Nigeria, currently studying Software Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University. I've been building things on the internet for over four years now, and what started with a Tecno T472 button phone and a curiosity I couldn't explain has grown into a career I'm genuinely proud of.
I build web applications, mobile apps, and everything in between. I care about clean code, thoughtful architecture, and interfaces that actually feel good to use.
Honestly? A few reasons.
First... to think out loud.
Engineering is mostly invisible. The hours debugging a race condition nobody will ever see. The three rewrites before you land on the architecture that actually makes sense. The decisions made at 1am that ship to production the next morning. I want to write about that stuff — the real process, not the polished result.
Second — to give back.
A lot of what I know came from someone else writing it down. A Stack Overflow answer from 2014. A dev.to post at 2am. A GitHub README that actually explained the why not just the how. If something I write saves one person an hour of confusion, this blog is already worth it.
Third — to grow.
Writing forces clarity. You can't explain something you don't understand. Every post I write here will push me to understand my craft more deeply... and I think that's worth doing publicly.
No strict rules. But expect a mix of:
I won't pretend to be an expert on everything. I'm a developer who's still learning... same as most of us. I'll write from that place honestly.
Right now I'm working on a few things:
The portfolio you're reading this on — samkiel.dev — is a full stack Next.js 16.2.3 application I built from scratch. MongoDB backend, Auth.js for admin authentication, Cloudinary for image storage, and this blog system you're reading through right now. I'll write a proper breakdown of how it was built in a future post.
Beyond that, I'm heads down on SAMKIEL Bot Platform — a WhatsApp bot deployment and management platform. More on that later on.
I'm not going to promise a post every week. Life is real, university is real, startup is real, client work is real.
What I will promise is that when I publish something here, it'll be worth your time. Quality over cadence. Every post will have a point.
If something I write resonates, challenges you, or you just want to talk about software — reach out.
You can find me at:
And if you're a developer in Nigeria or anywhere else who's building things quietly and figuring it out as you go — welcome. You're in the right place.
More soon.
